This recruitment drive aims to fill numerous posts like Sub Registrar Grade-II, Assistant Section Officer, Probation Officer, Forester, Senior Inspector, and many others in various Tamil Nadu government departments. TNPSC Group 2 & 2A Recruitment 2026 Overview

TNPSC Group 2 and Group 2A services are distinct categories. Group 2 posts are interview-based, while Group 2A posts are purely non-interview. The selection for both includes Preliminary and Main written examinations, but only Group 2 candidates undergo a personal interview. The exam will be conducted in offline mode at different centres across Tamil Nadu. Important Dates

According to the TNPSC Annual Planner 2026, the notification and online application process will begin on 11 August 2026. The last date to apply is expected to be in September 2026, and admit cards will be released in October 2026. The Preliminary examination is scheduled for 25 October 2026. Candidates are advised to regularly check the TNPSC portal for the updated schedule of Mains exam, interview, and document verification.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification varies from post to post. Most positions require a bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognized university. For example, the Assistant Section Officer post requires a Master's degree or a Bachelor's with BGL. Forester posts require a Bachelor of Science or Engineering in relevant subjects. The Sub Registrar Grade-II and Probation Officer posts need a degree, with preference given to candidates having qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or Law. Detailed post-wise eligibility is given in the official notification.

Age limit also depends on the post. For most posts, the minimum age is 18 and maximum is 32. However, for Probation Officer the minimum age is 22 and maximum is 42, while for Executive Officer Grade-III it is 25 to 37. Age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC/MBC/DNC, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and Destitute Widow candidates as per Tamil Nadu government rules.

Application Fee

The application fee includes a one-time registration fee of Rs. 150, a Preliminary exam fee of Rs. 100, and a Main exam fee of Rs. 150. All candidates, except those exempted, must pay through online modes such as debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI. The fee payment is mandatory for the application to be considered valid.

Exam Pattern & Selection Process

The selection process consists of three stages for Group 2: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Interview. For Group 2A, only Preliminary and Mains exams are conducted. The Preliminary exam has 200 objective-type questions carrying a total of 300 marks, with a duration of three hours. It covers General Studies (75 questions), General Tamil/English (100 questions), and Aptitude and Mental Ability (25 questions). The Mains exam is descriptive and includes Paper I - Tamil Eligibility Test (100 marks) and Paper II - General Studies (300 marks). For Group 2 posts, the final merit is prepared on the basis of Mains marks and Interview performance.

Salary Structure

Selected candidates will receive an attractive pay scale as per the Tamil Nadu 7th Pay Commission. For instance, the Sub Registrar Grade-II gets Level 18 with a salary of Rs. 36,900 to Rs. 1,16,600 per month. The Industrial Co-operative Officer gets Level 19 (Rs. 37,200-1,17,600). Assistant Section Officer in TNPSC gets Level 16 (Rs. 36,400-1,15,700). Revenue Assistant posts fall under Level 10 (Rs. 20,600-65,500). The exact salary depends on the post and place of posting.

Candidates must first complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the official TNPSC website. After that, log in with the registered User ID and password, select the TNPSC Group 2 & 2A Recruitment 2026 application link, fill in personal and educational details, upload required documents, pay the fee, and submit the form.
