UPSC Principal and Vice-Principal Recruitment 2026 Overview

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially issued the recruitment notification for Principal and Vice-Principal posts under the Education Department, Government of NCT of Delhi. A total of 828 vacancies will be filled through this recruitment drive, with 124 positions for Principal and 704 for Vice-Principal. UPSC Principal and Vice-Principal Vacancy Details

Principal Vacancies: 124 posts. Category-wise distribution: UR 69, EWS 11, OBC 18, SC 16, ST 10. Among these, 72 posts are for male candidates and 52 for female candidates.

Vice-Principal Vacancies: 704 posts. Category-wise distribution: UR 287, EWS 71, OBC 189, SC 103, ST 54. Male candidates account for 364 posts, while female candidates account for 340 posts.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Principal: Master's Degree, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), and at least 10 years of teaching experience as PGT or TGT.
  • Vice-Principal: Master's Degree, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), and at least 2 years of teaching experience as PGT or 3 years as TGT.

Age Limit (as on 14 August 2026)

  • Principal: UR/EWS up to 50 years; OBC up to 53 years; SC/ST up to 55 years; PwBD up to 56 years with additional relaxation.
  • Vice-Principal: UR/EWS up to 35 years; OBC up to 38 years; SC/ST up to 40 years; PwBD up to 10 years additional relaxation.

Application Fee

The application fee for UR, General, OBC, and EWS male candidates is ₹25. SC, ST, PwBD candidates and all female candidates are exempted from payment. The fee can be paid online via net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI.

Selection Process

The selection will be based on the following stages:

  1. Combined Recruitment Test (CRT): A pen-and-paper objective test carrying 75% weightage.
  2. Personal Interview: Carries 25% weightage, with minimum qualifying marks of 50 for General/EWS, 45 for OBC, and 40 for SC/ST/PwBD.
  3. Document Verification: Candidates must produce all educational, experience, and category certificates for verification.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The CRT will be conducted offline in OMR mode for 2 hours. The maximum marks will be 300, and it will include multiple-choice questions. For every wrong answer, one-third mark will be deducted.

The syllabus broadly covers:

  • Hindi and English language skills
  • Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude
  • Educational policies and measurement/evaluation

Salary Structure

Principal (Level 12): Basic pay ₹78,800, with approximate gross monthly salary between ₹1,48,000 and ₹1,55,000. Net in-hand salary ranges from ₹1,32,000 to ₹1,38,000.

Vice-Principal (Level 10): Basic pay ₹56,100, with approximate gross monthly salary between ₹1,08,000 and ₹1,15,000. Net in-hand salary ranges from ₹96,000 to ₹1,02,000.
