The Staff Selection Commission has announced the Combined Hindi Translators Examination 2026 for recruitment to Group B Non-Gazetted translation posts in various Central Government Ministries, Departments and Organizations. The notification was issued on 23 April 2026, with online applications accepted from 23 April to 14 May 2026. The Commission has notified 84 tentative vacancies, while the final post-wise and category-wise vacancy position may be updated later.

The recruitment covers Junior Translation Officer positions in the Central Secretariat Official Language Service and Armed Forces Headquarters, along with Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translation Officer and Junior Translator positions in different government organizations. Senior Hindi Translator, Senior Translator and Senior Translation Officer posts are also included. Junior-level posts carry Level-6 pay, while senior translator posts carry Level-7 pay.

Vacancy and Pay Scale

The total number of vacancies is 84 on a tentative basis. The notification does not provide a final post-wise or category-wise breakup with the initial vacancy figure. Candidates should therefore treat 84 as the current tentative total rather than a permanently fixed vacancy count. Junior translation posts are placed in Pay Level 6 with a basic pay range of Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400, whereas senior translation posts are placed in Pay Level 7 with a basic pay range of Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400.

Eligibility Criteria

For Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translation Officer and Junior Translator posts, candidates generally need a Master's degree from a recognized university with Hindi and English in the prescribed combination, including the required language medium or subject conditions specified in the notification. In addition, applicants must possess a recognized diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, or have two years of relevant translation experience in a Central or State Government office, including a Government of India undertaking.

For Senior Hindi Translator, Senior Translator and Senior Translation Officer posts, the educational language requirements are substantially similar, but the experience requirement is three years of translation work between Hindi and English in the prescribed government-office environment when the experience route is used. Candidates should carefully match their qualification and experience against the exact post code before relying on eligibility.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The prescribed age range is 18 to 30 years as on 1 August 2026. Candidates must have been born between 2 August 1996 and 1 August 2008, inclusive. Upper-age relaxation is available under applicable government rules. SC and ST candidates receive five years of relaxation, while OBC candidates receive three years. PwBD relaxation ranges from 10 to 15 years depending on the category. Eligible Ex-Servicemen and specified defence personnel may also receive relaxation according to the applicable rules.

Application Fee

The standard examination fee is Rs. 100. Women candidates, SC candidates, ST candidates, PwBD candidates and eligible Ex-Servicemen are exempt from paying the examination fee. Online payment is available through permitted digital modes including UPI, net banking and eligible debit cards. The correction facility was scheduled for 19 and 20 May 2026, with correction charges of Rs. 200 for the first correction submission and Rs. 500 for the second.

SSC Hindi Translator Exam Pattern

The examination consists of two papers. Paper-I is an objective Computer Based Examination containing 200 questions for 200 marks: 100 questions in General Hindi and 100 questions in General English. The normal duration is two hours, with a separate one-hour sectional timer for each part. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect response in Paper-I.

Paper-II is descriptive and carries 200 marks with a two-hour duration. It assesses translation ability and writing skills through Hindi-to-English and English-to-Hindi translation passages, together with essays in Hindi and English. Paper-I questions test language and literature knowledge, correct use of words, phrases and idioms, and the ability to use both languages accurately and effectively at degree level.

Selection Process

Applicants first appear in Paper-I. Candidates meeting the required qualifying and shortlisting criteria are called for Paper-II. Final selection and allocation are based on performance in both papers and the preferences exercised for posts and departments, subject to the applicable rules and document verification. Paper-I and Paper-II performance is used for final selection as prescribed by the Commission.

Important Dates

Online registration opened on 23 April 2026 and closed on 14 May 2026 at 11:00 PM. The fee payment deadline was 15 May 2026. The application correction window was available from 19 to 20 May 2026. The approved date for Paper-I is 8 September 2026. Examination city information was scheduled to become available before the examination, and city-information instructions were issued on 31 August 2026.

How to Apply

During the application period, candidates were required to complete One-Time Registration, access the examination application module, enter personal and educational details, select examination centres and post preferences as applicable, provide the required photograph and signature information, pay the fee when applicable, and submit the application. Applicants should retain the submitted application and payment records for future reference.

As the application deadline has already passed, fresh applications for this recruitment are no longer being accepted. Candidates who successfully applied should monitor the official Commission portal for admission certificate, examination, answer key, result and subsequent selection-related updates.
